has been a collector of antique and vintage photographs ever since he founded the collectors department at Bonhams Auctioneers in London in the mid 1970’s.
Specialising in social history, particularly portraiture, he has accumulated an extensive collection and gives talks on social history incorporating examples from his collection as illustration.
His talks include Victorian portrait photography as a social history study, snapshot photography, the growth of the London suburbs, Hollywood in the golden years – 1930-1940’s and the American home front during the 2nd world war.
He is co- author of the biography about the Victorian watercolour artist Paul Naftel.
Stephen has been a self-employed antiques dealer since 1980 concentrating on “shopping list” buying for American antique dealers.
